These visas may have extensive waiting periods and this may affect your decision to apply for one of these visas.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #5a6088;\"><strong>ECONOMIC IMMIGRANTS <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This category includes skilled workers, business people, outstanding talents, and investors. <u>Since 1 July 2012, immigration procedures for economic migrants have changed<\/u>. The new system is called &#8220;SkillSelect&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #5a6088;\"><u>SkillSelect<\/u><span class=\"style4\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #5a6088;\"><span class=\"style4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/skills\/skillselect\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(external link)<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SkillSelect is an online service that was introduced on 1 July 2012 and involves significant changes to the skilled visa application process.<\/p>\n<p>There are three points-tested skilled migration visa subclasses (see below). Intending migrants for these categories will first need to submit an expression of interest (EOI) and then will need to be invited to apply for one of the new points tested skilled migration visas.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #5a6088;\"><u>Points test<\/u> <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #5a6088;\"><span class=\"style4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/skilled\/general-skilled-migration\/pdf\/points-tested-migration-fact-sheet.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(external link)<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The points test will be based on the applicant\u2019s attributes at the time of invitation rather than at the time of application lodgement or decision. The pass mark is the minimum number of points required to be eligible for a points-tested skilled migration visa and is subject to change in response to Australian labour market needs. Jobs for wich there is a shortage in the labour market, can be found on the Skilled Occupation List, or SOL (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/skilled\/sol\/\">external link<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Under SkillSelect, the ability to meet the points test mark will not guarantee an invitation to apply. Invitations will be issued periodically to the highest ranking expressions of interest subject to occupation ceilings.<br \/>\nAn expression of interest is not an application for a visa. Though this book has been translated into many languages spoken by minority immigrant communities in Australia (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/living-in-australia\/values\/book\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">external link)<\/a>, there is no Dutch translation available.<\/p>\n<p>Temporary visa applicants also have to sign the Australian Values Statement, but are not required to read the book, or have it explained to them.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3\">certified documents<\/h3>\n<p class=\"style3\">You must provide documents that prove the claims you make in your application (e.g. regarding the points test, if applicable), as well as birth certificates, marriage certificates, proof of identity etc.. These are identified and explained in the Document Checklist (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/skills\/skillselect\/index\/checklists\/888-applicant-checklist.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">link<\/a>). This checklist also explains whether you need to provide original documents or certified copies. &#8216;Certified copies&#8217; have been authorised (or stamped) as being true copies of originals, by a person or agency recognised by the law of the country in which you live. E.g. a &#8216;notaris&#8217; in the Netherlands, notary public in the US and Canada, solicitor in the United Kingdom, or a Justice of the Peace in Australia and New Zealand.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3\">English translations (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/skills\/skillselect\/index\/helpful-information\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">external link<\/a>)<\/h3>\n<p>Any document in a language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A translator in Australia must be accredited by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters.<\/li>\n<li>A translator outside Australia does not need to be accredited, but they must endorse the translation with their full name, address, telephone number, and details of their qualifications and experience in the language being translated.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"style3\">health requirements<\/h4>\n<p class=\"style3\">The applicant must meet certain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/allforms\/health-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">health requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style3\">character requirements<\/h4>\n<p class=\"style3\">You and all members of your family unit must meet certain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.immi.gov.au\/media\/fact-sheets\/79character.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">character requirements<\/a>. This means you and each of your dependants (whether migrating or not) who are aged 16 years or older must provide police certificates.
